Description
The Rural Residency Planning and Development (RRPD) program aims to improve and expand rural health care access by developing new, accredited, sustainable rural residency programs, including rural track programs. It provides start-up funding to create new rural residency programs in qualifying medical specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine, preventive medicine, psychiatry, general surgery, and obstetrics and gynecology. These programs must train residents in rural areas for more than 50% of their residency time and focus on preparing physicians to practice in rural communities. The program supports the creation of new rural physician residency programs to address physician shortages in rural areas.
