Description
The U.S. Department of State's Bureau of Counterterrorism (CT) is offering a 15-month cooperative agreement to enhance the counterterrorism capabilities of an advanced tactical law enforcement unit within Kenya’s Administrative Police Services (APS) responsible for securing the border with Somalia. The program focuses on improving operational readiness through training and equipment in three key areas: low-light and night-vision capabilities, use of unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) for intelligence, reconnaissance, and surveillance (ISR), and organic explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) capabilities. The initiative aims to strengthen security around the Manda Bay Military Base (Camp Simba) in Kenya’s Lamu County, which is vital for protecting U.S. military assets and personnel. By bolstering Kenya's border security, the program seeks to directly protect American servicemembers and prevent terrorist attacks threatening U.S. interests.
