Description
This cooperative agreement opportunity is for a multi-year study of the endangered Cook Inlet beluga whale (CIBW) and their habitat in and around Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER). The project aims to collect data to inform JBER's environmental management, support compliance with the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act, and contribute to the recovery of the CIBW population. Tasks include characterizing ice conditions, underwater acoustic environment, beluga presence and behavior, and collecting eDNA samples for prey analysis. The base period is 18 months with potential for six 18-month follow-on periods, subject to funding.
