The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive Diseases and Nutrition (NIDDK) seeks to continue and expand the work of the Gastroparesis Consortium to include other gastrointestinal conditions associated with impaired interoceptive processing. The initiative aims to form a Disorders of Gastrointestinal Interoception Consortium (DGIC) with up to 6 Clinical Research Centers and a Scientific Data Research Center. The focus is on multidisciplinary approaches to understand underlying mechanisms, identify biomarkers, and discover novel therapeutic targets for future clinical trials. The consortium will address both adult and pediatric GI conditions involving altered interoceptive signaling.
