Description
The Facilities for Atmospheric Research and Education (FARE) Program supports state-of-the-art instruments and facilities to facilitate fundamental research in atmospheric sciences. It includes the Lower Atmosphere Observing Facilities (LAOF), which provides specialized facilities and field support for geophysical research, and the Community Instrumentation and Facilities (CIF), which offers access to specialized instrumentation for field and laboratory studies. The program is managed by the NSF Division of Atmospheric and Geospace Sciences and supports planning, acquisition, operation, and maintenance of facilities. Proposals for LAOF are by invitation only, while CIF requests proposals from instrument and facility providers for community use.
