The National Institutes of Health (NIH), through the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, is forecasting a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the BRAIN Initiative Connectivity across Scales (BRAIN CONNECTS): Specialized Projects for Scalable Technologies. - Purpose: Support U01 cooperative agreements for developing scalable technologies to enable brainwide mapping of neural connectivity - Scope of work includes: - Scalable methods for tissue processing, imaging, alignment, segmentation, annotation, error correction, and integration into neuroscience data environments - Focus on human, non-human primate, and mouse species; other species may be used for validation if justified - No specific OEMs or vendors are named, as this is a research grant opportunity - Projects will be integrated into the BRAIN CONNECTS Network to advance research capacity and technical capabilities for comprehensive brain wiring diagrams - Eligible applicants: Nonprofits, tribal organizations, educational institutions, for-profit entities, and NIH Intramural - Unique requirements: - Emphasis on scalability and integration with neuroscience data environments - Projects must address multiple steps in the connectivity mapping pipeline - Validation in relevant species is required

Description

The BRAIN Initiative intends to reissue a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for Specialized Projects developing scalable technologies aimed at brainwide mapping of neural connectivity. The NOFO will solicit projects developing scalable methods for mapping brain connectivity across various stages including tissue processing, imaging, alignment, segmentation, annotation, error correction, and data integration. The program focuses on human, non-human primate, and mouse species, but other species may be used for validation if justified. Awards will be integrated into the BRAIN CONNECTS Network to develop research capacity and technical capabilities for generating comprehensive brain wiring diagrams.
