Description
The Marine Geology and Geophysics Core Program supports research on all aspects of the geology and geophysics of the present ocean basins and margins, as well as those of the Great Lakes. The program funds studies on topics such as oceanic lithosphere structure, paleoceanography, submarine volcanology, marine hydrogeology, hydrothermal venting, marine sedimentology, mid-ocean ridge processes, subduction zones, marine geohazards, and coastal processes. It supports acquisition of new field data, synthesis of existing data, analytical and laboratory experiments, methods development, and modeling. The program encourages proposals that advance understanding of marine geoscience processes and interfaces with other NSF programs.
