The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) is inviting proposals for its Engineering for Civil Infrastructure (ECI) research program. - Government Buyer: - U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) - Scope of Research: - Fundamental research in geotechnical, structural, materials, architectural, and coastal engineering - Focus on physical civil infrastructure such as buildings, earth structures, flood protection, water/wastewater systems, energy infrastructure (excluding nuclear), and transportation systems (excluding pavements) - Emphasis on climate change adaptation, disaster resilience, and multi-physics/materials behavior under environmental and hazard conditions - Unique Requirements: - Encourages leveraging NSF’s Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) - Only fundamental, theory-based research is eligible - Excludes research on natural resource exploration, blasts, sensor technologies, hazard characterization, nuclear energy, and pavement systems - No OEMs, vendors, or specific products/services are mentioned - No purchase quantities or part numbers are specified
Description
The Engineering for Civil Infrastructure (ECI) program supports fundamental research in geotechnical, structural, materials, architectural, and coastal engineering. It promotes research that can shape the future of the nation’s physical civil infrastructure and contribute to climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster resilience. The program considers various types of civil infrastructure including buildings, water systems, energy infrastructure (excluding nuclear), and transportation systems (excluding pavements). Research supported includes experimental and analytical studies on materials and infrastructure behavior under environmental and hazard conditions, with an emphasis on fundamental scientific questions.
