NOAA is seeking specialized artifact conservation services for the USS Monitor Collection, a federally owned heritage asset housed at The Mariners Museum and Park in Newport News, Virginia. - Government Buyer: - National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Office of National Marine Sanctuaries, Monitor National Marine Sanctuary - OEMs and Vendors: - The Mariners Museum and Park (sole source provider of conservation services) - Services Requested: - Professional conservation care for over 5,000 artifacts, including large assemblies such as the 115-ton rotating gun turret and 25-ton propulsion engines - Services include artifact stabilization, disassembly, electrochemical treatment, desalination tracking, drying and surface coating, ongoing preventive care, and quarterly progress reporting - Conservation of artifacts made from ferrous metals, wood, leather, textiles, and rubber - Unique Requirements: - Qualified personnel with advanced degrees or professional experience in archaeological conservation, analytical chemistry, or collection management - Specialized facilities including wet-laboratory tanks, cold storage, workspace, and office space - Work performed at TMMP's Batten Conservation Complex - Place of Performance: - The Mariners Museum and Park, 100 Museum Drive, Newport News, VA 23606 - Contract Value: - Estimated at approximately $5.1 million including option periods - Period of Performance: - 12-month base period with two 12-month option periods
