Description
The Brooklyn Museum intends to repatriate a cultural item classified as an unassociated funerary object under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The item is a steatite manta ray effigy with Olivella shell inlays, culturally affiliated with the Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Mission Indians of California. The repatriation may occur on or after May 26, 2026. Requests for repatriation must be submitted in writing to the Brooklyn Museum.
