This notice announces the intended repatriation of sacred cultural objects by the Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS), in partnership with the Department of the Interior and the National Park Service, under the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). - Government buyer: - Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) - Coordinating with Department of the Interior and National Park Service - Cultural items for repatriation: - One kukui hele po (stone lamp), accessioned in 1968, currently missing - One umeke la1au (wood bowl), donated in 1978 - No OEMs, vendors, or procurement of goods/services involved - Items are sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony affiliated with the Native Hawaiian organization Hui Iwi Kuamo1o - Notice is legal and cultural in nature, not a solicitation for products or services
Description
In accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA), the Denver Museum of Nature & Science (DMNS) intends to repatriate certain cultural items that meet the definition of sacred objects/objects of cultural patrimony and that have a cultural affiliation with the Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations. The repatriation may occur on or after May 26, 2026. The items include a kukui hele po (stone lamp) and an umeke la1au (wood bowl) with cultural significance to the Hui Iwi Kuamo1o.
