ARPA-H TIGAR R&D Solicitation for Temperature-Flexible Storage of Regenerative Tissues and Organs

ARPA-H, part of the National Institutes of Health under the Department of Health and Human Services, is seeking proposals for the TIGAR initiative to advance temperature-flexible storage technologies for regenerative tissues and organs. - Government Buyer: - Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H), NIH, HHS - Products/Services Requested: - Research and development services to create innovative solutions for storing and preserving complex biological systems (e.g., organoids, thick tissues, whole organs, vascularized composite allografts) - Solutions may include new materials, AI/ML, high-throughput screening, biological interventions, devices, processing methods, analytical technology, and packaging strategies - Emphasis on enabling 30-day preservation at practical temperatures (from -80°C to room temperature), with quantitative milestones and clinical justification - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Solutions must be applicable to thick tissues, not just cellular-level storage - Must reduce reliance on strictly controlled temperature zones (i.e., non-cryogenic storage) - 18-month period of performance, divided into two 9-month phases, with monthly and final reporting - Funding up to $2 million per project - Proposals must demonstrate feasibility and functional preservation metrics - No specific OEMs or vendors are named in the solicitation - No specific part numbers or commercial products are listed

This Special Notice (SN) is intended to alert the scientific community to a newly approved Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA-H) solicitation and notify potential proposers of an associated Proposers’ Day (PD) sponsored by the Health Science Futures (HSF) Office. Under the cognizance of the HSF Office, ARPA-H is publishing an Innovative Solutions Opening (ISO) for the Technology InteGrator and AcceleratoR (TIGAR) Exploratory Topic on April 22nd, 2026.
