Worcester Water Main and Large Valve Replacement Project – Chandler & May Streets

The City of Worcester Department of Public Works is seeking contractors for a major water main and large diameter valve improvement project along Chandler Street, May Street, and multiple intersections in Worcester, Massachusetts. - Government Buyer: - City of Worcester Department of Public Works, Water Operations - Purchasing Division, City Hall - Products and Materials Requested: - Approximately 4,180 linear feet of ductile iron water mains (16", 24", 30", 36", 42", 48" diameters) - 22 large diameter horizontal gate valves (16"–48") and 24" butterfly valves (if gate valves are not feasible) - Tapping sleeves and valves (e.g., 42" x 8") - Fittings, hydrants, air release valves, and temporary bypass piping - 240 linear feet of 15-inch reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) and 3 manholes for stormwater improvements - Silt sacks for sediment control - Services Requested: - Removal and disposal of existing water mains and valves - Installation of new water mains, valves, and connections at Chandler Street/Mann Street and Beaver Brook Booster Pump Station - Temporary bypass piping installation and maintenance - Night work as required (with prior approval) - Traffic management, excavation, backfilling, testing, and site restoration - Unique or Notable Requirements: - Compliance with Massachusetts public construction laws, prevailing wage rates, and minority/women business enterprise participation - 5% bid bond, performance and payment bonds required - Adherence to city policies on wage theft prevention and CORI checks - Work must comply with 2026 DPW Standard Specifications - Night work may be required for certain phases - No specific OEMs or manufacturers are named; the project is open to qualified contractors able to supply and install the specified materials and equipment.

Description

This solicitation is for complete water main improvements along portions of Chandler Street and May Street in Worcester, Massachusetts. The work includes furnishing and installing various sizes of ductile iron water mains, associated water and fire services, valves, fittings, hydrants, and temporary bypass piping. Additionally, large diameter valve replacements and other intersection work at various locations in the city are included. Stormwater system improvements such as installation of reinforced concrete pipes and manholes are also part of the scope. The estimated cost for the project is $9,000,000, and the work must comply with the 2026 DPW Standard Specifications.
