ISU Seeks Roof Replacement and Lightning Protection for Horse Barn & Machine Shed

Iowa State University of Science and Technology (ISU) is seeking contractors for the removal and replacement of roofs on the Horse Barn and Machine Shed at its Ames, Iowa campus. - Government Buyer: - Iowa State University of Science and Technology (ISU) - Facilities Planning & Management and Procurement Services - OEMs and Vendors: - GAF (referenced for roofing materials) - Tarter (referenced for DuraTough Panel gates) - UL (referenced for lightning protection components) - Products/Services Requested: - Complete removal of existing shingles, gutters, and flashing down to wood decking - Installation of new roofing system including: - GAF WeatherWatch Ice & Water Shield (or equivalent) - GAF FeltBuster underlayment (or equivalent) - GAF Pro-Start starter shingles (or equivalent) - GAF Timberline ArmorShield II shingles (or equivalent) - GAF Seal-A-Ridge cap shingles (or equivalent) - New neoprene roof flashing at pipe penetrations - New metal flashing and edge trim (white, matching existing) - Salvage and reinstall gutters - Lightning protection system: - Removal and replacement with new system compliant with NFPA 780 and UL 96A - Use of UL 96 certified components (copper cables, air terminals, grounding rods, etc.) - Installation by a Certified Member of the Lightning Protection Institute - Testing and compliance report required - Site safety equipment: - At least four DuraTough Panel gates (Tarter MFG # DTPBL512, 12' black) for fencing - Protection tarps extending at least 10 feet from walls - Unique/Notable Requirements: - Roofing system must include a 25-year manufacturer's material defect warranty (GAF or equivalent) - Contractor must provide a one-year labor and material warranty - Project must be completed while buildings remain operational, with specific blackout dates and coordination to minimize disruption - Protection of horses, staff, and property during construction is mandatory - Performance and payment bonds required for projects over $25,000 - Pre-bid meeting and site visit are mandatory for bidders - All safety fencing and gates become ISU property after project completion - No specific OEMs are mandated, but GAF and Tarter are referenced as standards for materials and equipment.
