This notice announces the completion of an inventory of Native American human remains and funerary objects by the Kansas State Historical Society (KSHS), under the Department of the Interior and National Park Service, in compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). - Government Buyer: - Kansas State Historical Society (KSHS) - Oversight by Department of the Interior and National Park Service - Inventory Details: - Human remains representing at least 59 individuals - 1,915 associated funerary objects, including: - Shell, bone, ceramics, stone tools, beads, and other artifacts - Items originate from multiple counties in Kansas: Dickinson, Lyon, Riley, Wabaunsee, Geary, Pottawatomie, and Osage - Remains and objects collected from archaeological sites, donations, and transfers - Cultural Affiliation: - Determined to be culturally affiliated with: - Kaw Nation, Oklahoma - Wichita and Affiliated Tribes (Wichita, Keechi, Waco, & Tawakonie), Oklahoma - Notable Requirements: - Notice outlines the process for Indian Tribes, Native Hawaiian organizations, or lineal descendants to request repatriation - No procurement of goods or services is requested - No OEMs or vendors are involved in this notice

Description

The Kansas State Historical Society (KSHS) has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory includes remains representing at least 59 individuals and 1,915 associated funerary objects from various counties in Kansas. KSHS has determined a cultural affiliation between these remains and objects and the Kaw Nation and the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes of Oklahoma. Repatriation may occur on or after May 18, 2026, and requests for repatriation must be submitted to KSHS.
