Description
Waste was found in the Bayou Sauvage Urban National Wildlife Refuge in New Orleans, which requires removal and remediation to prevent the entry and spread of potential invasive APHIS-regulated plant pests and pathogens into the surrounding environment and agriculture. Waste on site that is regulated by APHIS or commingled with APHIS-regulated material requires deep burial at a landfill. The entry spot to the dump site is private property and the company contracted to remove the waste would need to take over lease of this land throughout the cleanup process. Currently, APHIS holds a temporary lease of the property.
