Description

The University of California, Berkeley intends to repatriate 14 unassociated funerary objects that have cultural affiliation with the Augustine Band of Cahuilla Indians, California, in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). These items, including baskets, worked stone, and a vessel, were removed in 1907 and are held at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum of Anthropology. Repatriation may occur on or after May 11, 2026, and requests for repatriation can be submitted by lineal descendants or affiliated Indian Tribes or Native Hawaiian organizations.
