Description

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has issued an exemption for Duke Energy Progress, LLC regarding the H.B. Robinson Steam Electric Plant, Unit No. 2. This exemption removes the requirement that the application for subsequent renewal of the plant's operating license be referred to the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards (ACRS) for review and report. The NRC determined that the exemption is authorized by law, does not present an undue risk to public health and safety, is consistent with common defense and security, and that special circumstances justify the exemption. The NRC's safety review found no novel or noteworthy issues requiring ACRS review, making the exemption in the public interest.
