NOAA Seeks CRISPR-Based Genetic Test Kits for Seafood Species Identification

NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service Office of Law Enforcement is seeking the development and deployment of rapid, CRISPR-based genetic test kits for seafood species identification to combat seafood fraud and illegal trade at U.S. ports. - Government Buyer: - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) - National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) - Office of Law Enforcement (OLE) - Western Acquisition Division - Key contact: Bryan Landry, Assistant Special Agent in Charge - Products/Services Requested: - CRISPR-based genetic test kits for rapid identification of seafood species - Initial focus: Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and four tuna species - Deliverables include: - 1,000 test strips for Pacific white shrimp - 12 field test kits for shrimp and tuna species - Research and development services: - Sequence analysis, assay development, laboratory validation, and field optimization - Field testing and piloting of technology during port operations - Unique or Notable Requirements: - Kits must be field-deployable for use by enforcement officers at U.S. ports - Option year may cover additional seafood species and test strips - Deliverables include validated assays, field kits, and support for real-world deployment - OEMs and Vendors: - No specific OEMs or vendors are named; open to qualified sources with CRISPR assay development capabilities - Place of Performance and Delivery: - NOAA Fisheries Office of Law Enforcement, Silver Spring, Maryland - U.S. ports of entry for field deployment - Period of Performance: - Base period for shrimp and tuna test kits: 2 years - Option period for additional species: 2 years
