Description

This proposed rule by the Department of Health and Human Services and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) proposes updates to the prospective payment rates, outlier threshold, and wage index for Medicare inpatient hospital services provided by Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities (IPFs), including psychiatric hospitals and excluded psychiatric units of acute care or critical access hospitals. The rule also proposes refinement of the IPF PPS outlier policy, implementation of a standardized IPF patient assessment instrument, and removal of two measures from the Inpatient Psychiatric Facilities Quality Reporting Program. These changes would be effective for discharges during the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027.
