Information Collection Request for National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS)

The Department of Education, through Federal Student Aid (FSA), is seeking public comment on the proposed reinstatement of an information collection for the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS): - NSLDS is a federal database tracking federal student loans and grants, including: - Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program loans - Federal Perkins loans - William D. Ford Federal Direct Student loans - Federally Insured Student Loans - Federal Pell Grants, TEACH Grants, and other federal grants - The information collection supports research, policy analysis, monitoring student enrollment, identifying loan holders and servicers, calculating default rates, and verifying student aid eligibility - The Department is also collecting information from third-party servicers via a separate Third-Party Servicer Data Inquiry form - No specific OEMs or vendors are involved, as this is not a procurement of products or services - Estimated annual responses: - NSLDS: 16,212 responses, 33,624 burden hours - Third-Party Servicer Data Inquiry: 75 responses, 48 burden hours - Feedback is requested on the necessity, accuracy, and burden of the information collection
