Description

This interim final rule amends the seat belt warning requirements in Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 208, "Occupant crash protection," in response to petitions for reconsideration of the January 2025 final rule. It delays the compliance dates and makes technical clarifications to the regulatory text. The rule is effective immediately, but the agency requests comments by May 21, 2026, and will publish a final rule after considering those comments. Multi-stage manufacturers and alterers have an additional year to comply.
