Description
The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is issuing a temporary rule to prohibit directed fishing for Pacific cod by catcher/processors using pot gear in the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI). This closure is necessary to prevent exceeding the A season allowance of the 2026 Pacific cod total allowable catch (TAC) allocated to this sector. The rule is effective from 1200 hours Alaska local time on March 30, 2026, through 1200 hours on September 1, 2026, and is part of the 2026 and 2027 harvest specifications for groundfish in the BSAI under NOAA authority.
