Description
The C.T. Hurst Museum at Western Colorado University has completed an inventory of human remains and associated funerary objects in accordance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA). The inventory includes remains of at least 43 individuals and 155 associated funerary objects such as pottery, carved stone sacred objects, shell bracelets, and a ring with a human scalp. These items originate from several Southwestern locations and have been culturally affiliated with the Hopi Tribe of Arizona, Pueblo of Zia, Southern Ute Indian Tribe, and Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. Repatriation may occur on or after May 4, 2026.
