UK Signs Typhoon Training Deal with Türkiye
March 25, 2026
The United Kingdom Government has formalized a major £8 billion defence agreement with the Republic of Türkiye to provide training, support, and maintenance services for 20 newly ordered Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft. This contract, awarded between late 2025 and early 2026, includes pilot and technical personnel training led by the Royal Air Force, delivery of spares, simulators, and ongoing technical support primarily executed by BAE Systems and supported by other UK defence firms. The agreement aims to enhance Türkiye's sovereign operational capabilities, sustain approximately 20,000 UK defence jobs, and strengthen NATO's eastern flank through improved interoperability and bilateral cooperation.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should note the scale and multi-year nature of this contract, which extends UK defence industry involvement into the 2030s and supports key UK manufacturing sites such as BAE Systems' Warton and Samlesbury facilities.
- The contract emphasizes integrated training and support services, highlighting opportunities for contractors specializing in pilot instruction, maintenance training, simulators, and electronic warfare systems.
- Organizations should consider the strategic importance of this partnership in NATO defense modernization and the potential for follow-on sustainment and upgrade contracts.
- This deal underscores the UK government's commitment to export-driven defence procurement and international collaboration, which may influence future procurement planning and industry engagement strategies.
We’re proud to support the UK’s partnership with Türkiye by delivering a trusted defence capability that deepens collaboration and reinforces shared security commitments. Türkiye’s acquisition of Typhoon strengthens this partnership and enhances the country’s advanced combat air capabilities. We’re delighted to play a key role in enhancing Türkiye’s readiness to operate the new aircraft through this training and support agreement with the UK Government.
— Simon Barnes, Group Managing Director, BAE Systems’ Air sector
Türkiye’s decision to acquire Typhoon is a vote of confidence in British industry and British jobs, and this agreement brings the UK-Türkiye partnership to life.
