Lockheed Martin Launches Containerized Hellfire Launcher
March 24, 2026
Lockheed Martin has developed and successfully tested the Grizzly, a low-cost, containerized missile launcher capable of firing Hellfire missiles from a compact 10-foot cargo container. This rapid-development system, achieved within six months through internal investment, offers enhanced mobility, flexibility, and discreet deployment options for U.S. military branches including the Navy, Marine Corps, and Army. The Grizzly launcher aligns with the Navy's interest in containerized payloads for unmanned surface vessels, potentially expanding missile deployment capabilities at sea and across multiple operational environments.
- Why this matters: The Grizzly launcher provides procurement professionals with a novel, scalable missile deployment solution that can augment existing artillery and missile systems with increased operational flexibility.
- The containerized design supports rapid fielding and mobility, reducing logistical footprint and enabling asymmetric tactical advantages.
- Military contractors should evaluate opportunities to support integration, sustainment, and potential expansion of containerized missile systems across services.
- This development signals growing demand for modular, transportable weapon systems compatible with unmanned platforms and multi-domain operations.
Our first live fire tests come just six months after the program began research and development, through internal Lockheed Martin investment, demonstrating our focus on quickly delivering a mobile and versatile launcher capability to defeat evolving threats.
— Randy Crites, Vice President of Lockheed Martin Advanced Programs
Itโs a fairly small containerized launcher. The idea is to provide a bit of an asymmetric capability to our warfighters you might think of a depth of magazine as being a really large magazine. Another way to achieve depth of magazine is to have several launchers.
