US and Zambia Sign Strategic Commercial Partnership
March 21, 2026
The Governments of the United States and the Republic of Zambia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance strategic priority commercial projects in Zambia across multiple sectors including agriculture, energy, mining, healthcare, manufacturing, information technology, tourism, and education. This five-year partnership aims to facilitate U.S. private sector engagement, enhance bilateral trade and investment, and support Zambia's National Long-Term Vision 2030 through cooperation, capacity building, and financing mechanisms. Procurement professionals and contractors should note the broad scope of sectors targeted and the emphasis on enabling U.S. business participation in Zambia's development projects.
- The MOU establishes a framework for information exchange and collaboration between U.S. and Zambian government entities, notably the U.S. Department of Commerce and Zambia's Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.
- U.S. companies can leverage this partnership to identify and pursue commercial opportunities in Zambia's priority sectors, supported by potential financing and capacity-building initiatives.
- Procurement and business development teams should consider aligning proposals and strategies with Zambia's Vision 2030 goals and the sectors highlighted in the MOU.
- The involvement of the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) suggests possible support for feasibility studies, technical assistance, and project preparation activities that can facilitate contract awards and investments.
The Governments intend to develop and exchange information that can be broadly shared by the Government of the United States of America with U.S. businesses that may have an interest in participating in a broad range of agriculture, industry, transportation, energy, and other priority projects.
