New Jersey Expands SBIR/STTR Entrepreneur Support
March 20, 2026
The New Jersey Commission on Science, Innovation and Technology (CSIT) and Kean University have formalized a partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance statewide support for entrepreneurs pursuing federal Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) funding. Kean University will lead a Phase 0 grant writing and training program designed to increase the quantity and competitiveness of SBIR/STTR applications from New Jersey-based innovators. This initiative aims to stimulate innovation, commercialization, and job creation within the state, providing a structured resource for early-stage entrepreneurs to navigate federal funding opportunities.
- Why this matters: State agencies and academic institutions are collaborating to strengthen the pipeline of federally funded small business innovation projects, which can lead to increased federal contract awards and commercialization success.
- Procurement professionals should note the growing emphasis on Phase 0 support programs that prepare applicants for federal SBIR/STTR solicitations, potentially increasing the quality and volume of proposals.
- Businesses and contractors in New Jersey can leverage this program to enhance their grant writing capabilities and improve access to federal innovation funding.
- Organizations supporting small business development may find partnership opportunities with CSIT and Kean University to expand entrepreneurial assistance services.
New Jersey has extraordinary scientific and entrepreneurial talent.
