NDDC Launches CNG Conversion Training in Niger Delta
March 18, 2026
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has initiated a six-week training program to equip 400 youths from the Niger Delta region with skills in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle conversion and maintenance. This program, conducted at the Dakkada Skills Acquisition Centre in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, aims to foster human capital development, reduce youth unemployment, and promote entrepreneurship aligned with Nigeria's energy transition toward cleaner fuels. The training is supported by the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PI-CNG) and delivered by Viedenburg Energy Resources.
- Why this matters: This initiative represents a strategic investment in workforce development for the emerging CNG sector, creating procurement opportunities for training providers and related service vendors.
- The program supports environmental sustainability goals and economic diversification in the Niger Delta, signaling potential future demand for CNG-related technologies and services.
- Procurement professionals should note the involvement of federal agencies like NDDC and PI-CNG, indicating government prioritization of clean energy skill development.
- Companies specializing in energy training, vehicle conversion technologies, and maintenance services may find partnership or contract opportunities as the program expands or replicates regionally.
Encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity to improve themselves and prepare for emerging opportunities in the energy sector.
