Federal Legislation
Congress Codifies SBA Native American Office
February 17, 2026
Congress has enacted the Native American Entrepreneurial Opportunity Act, which formally establishes the Office of Native American Affairs (ONAA) within the Small Business Administration (SBA). This legislation creates a dedicated Assistant Administrator position to lead the office and mandates annual reporting to Congress on its activities. The act aims to enhance support for Native American entrepreneurs by improving access to entrepreneurial development programs, federal contracting opportunities, and capital resources specifically for Indian Tribes and Native Hawaiian Organizations.
- The SBA will now have a statutorily authorized office focused on increasing Native American participation in federal procurement and small business programs.
- Procurement professionals should anticipate expanded outreach and tailored resources to facilitate Native American business engagement in government contracting.
- Contractors and industry stakeholders may find new opportunities as the SBA strengthens support mechanisms and reporting transparency for Native American entrepreneurial initiatives.
- This development signals a federal commitment to improving equity in small business procurement and capital access for Native American communities.
Statutorily authorizing the ONAA at the SBA will increase access to federal programs and services that support Native American entrepreneurs across the country and help Native Americans launch and grow small businesses.
