Blount County Selects Southern Linc for Public Safety Radio Integration
March 17, 2026
Blount County Communications District awarded Southern Linc a contract on March 17, 2026, to integrate its existing VHF, P25, and other radio networks with Southern Linc's CriticalLinc™ LTE network. This integration enhances public safety communications for 32 law enforcement and fire agencies by providing expanded coverage, improved interoperability, encryption, and mission-critical push-to-talk (MCPTT) capabilities. The solution offers a cost-effective, layered, and redundant communication system that improves reliability for first responders across the county.
- The contract impacts multiple state law enforcement and public safety agencies, including the Alabama Highway Patrol and Alabama State Bureau of Investigation, indicating broad operational benefits.
- Procurement professionals should note the emphasis on hybrid network integration combining legacy radio systems with LTE broadband to enhance coverage and resilience.
- Vendors specializing in public safety communications and LTE-based push-to-talk solutions may find increased opportunities in similar regional integrations.
- The use of Catalyst Communications Technologies equipment highlights the importance of interoperable hardware partnerships in delivering comprehensive communication solutions.
The Catalyst solution provides the BCCD with better coverage, better MCPTT performance and thousands of miles of incremental calling capability at a fraction of the cost of a private network buildout.
