DOT Launches eVTOL Pilot at Houma-Terrebonne Airport
March 10, 2026
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) have selected Louisiana's Houma-Terrebonne Airport to participate in the Advanced Air Mobility and Electric Vertical Takeoff and Landing (eVTOL) Integration Pilot Program as of March 2026. This pilot program aims to test innovative cargo and personnel flight operations over the Gulf of America, with a focus on supporting the regional energy sector. Congressman Clay Higgins played a key advocacy role in securing this opportunity for the region, highlighting the airport's unique capabilities for this initiative.
- Why this matters: This pilot program represents a significant federal investment in emerging aviation technologies, creating potential contracting and partnership opportunities for companies specializing in advanced air mobility, eVTOL systems, and related infrastructure.
- Procurement professionals should note the involvement of DOT and FAA as primary agencies overseeing this pilot, indicating future solicitations or cooperative agreements may arise from this program.
- The focus on cargo and personnel transport over the Gulf region suggests opportunities for vendors with expertise in energy sector logistics and aviation support services.
- Organizations engaged in aerospace innovation, regional airport development, and transportation technology integration may benefit from aligning their capabilities with the pilot's objectives.
The Houma-Terrebonne Airport is uniquely equipped for this important pilot program. Iโm proud to have been a consistent voice of support for Louisianaโs bid, and Iโd like to thank Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy and FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford for choosing our state to be a partner for this endeavor.
