FEMA Extends Florida Housing Program
March 17, 2026
FEMA has authorized a six-month extension of its direct temporary housing program for survivors of hurricanes Helene and Milton in Florida, allowing eligible residents to remain in FEMA-provided housing on a month-to-month basis through October 11, 2026. Beginning April 2026, rental payments will be introduced, capped at HUD Fair Market Rates, to facilitate the transition of residents from temporary to permanent housing solutions.
- This extension signals ongoing demand for temporary housing services and related support contracts in Florida disaster-affected counties including Citrus, Columbia, Dixie, and Hamilton.
- Procurement professionals should anticipate continued opportunities for housing providers, property management, and support services aligned with FEMA's direct housing program.
- The phased rental payment approach introduces new financial management and billing requirements for contractors administering housing units.
- Coordination with HUD standards and local Florida agencies will be critical for compliance and effective program delivery during the extended period.
