SPBL Final Meeting
March 05, 2026
The City of Ventura held the sixth and final public meeting on March 5, 2026, to discuss the Santa Paula Branch Line (SPBL) trail project, a multi-phase infrastructure initiative funded by state and federal grants. The meeting covered project background, design updates, community engagement results, trail safety, and the project timeline. Key procurement-related details included the nearing completion of 90% design milestone, plans for bidding construction later in 2026, and construction scheduled from early 2026 through mid-2027. Design changes aimed at cost savings were highlighted, such as relocating trail sections to reduce retaining wall expenses and adding a second bridge. Additional funding secured allowed for enhanced sidewalk and pedestrian safety improvements in the Satakoy area. The project includes installation of amenities like exercise equipment, solar lighting, security cameras, and safe crossings with traffic signal modifications. Law enforcement coordination and proactive patrols were also discussed to ensure trail safety. The project is led by the City of Ventura with collaboration from Ventura County Transportation Commission and other partners, with a city council review planned for summer 2026.
