USDA Awards $26.8M Local Market Grants
March 18, 2026
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced the award of over $26.8 million in grants through the Local Agriculture Market Program (LAMP) on March 10, 2026. These grants support projects that connect farmers to local and regional markets, including initiatives under the Farmers Market Promotion Program (FMPP), Local Food Promotion Program (LFPP), and Regional Food System Partnerships (RFSP). The funding aims to enhance producer-to-consumer marketing, strengthen rural economies, and increase access to fresh, locally grown food through farmers markets, local food businesses, and institutional partnerships.
- Why this matters: Procurement professionals should note the availability of significant federal grant funding focused on local and regional food marketing projects, presenting opportunities for organizations involved in agricultural marketing, food distribution, and rural economic development.
- The grants support diverse project types, including market promotion, local food business development, and regional food system partnerships, indicating a broad scope for potential applicants and contractors.
- Businesses and service providers working with farmers markets, local food enterprises, and institutional food procurement can leverage this funding to expand market access and strengthen supply chains.
- Procurement teams should engage with USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) contacts to explore partnership and contracting opportunities related to these grants.
Part of our efforts to put Farmers First is to boost demand for locally grown food and connect our farmers to these growing regional markets. The Local Agriculture Market Program is an important part of USDA’s work to grow strong local and regional food systems.
