State & Local Meeting
Joint Meeting | City Council/Planning Commission - March 5, 2026
March 05, 2026
The City of Eastpointe held a joint meeting between the City Council and Planning Commission on March 5, 2026, focused on updating and discussing the city's master plan and economic development strategic plan. Consultants from TPMA and Perkins and Will presented findings from community surveys, focus groups, and data analysis highlighting key issues such as housing affordability, aging housing stock, limited local industry, and the need for business attraction and economic growth. A significant concern raised was the low resident engagement in the planning process, with only 188 survey responses from a population of 34,000, prompting discussions on strategies to increase community involvement. The meeting included a visioning exercise where council and commission members prioritized goals in housing diversity, business development, transportation, environment, and commercial corridors. Emphasis was placed on balancing growth with maintaining affordability and supporting seniors aging in place. The meeting concluded with plans for further community outreach and future joint sessions to continue collaborative planning efforts.
