State & Local Meeting
(Spanish) Know Your Rights Training on Medical and Behavioral Health Spaces
March 09, 2026
This meeting, hosted by One Albuquerque Media and the Office of Refugee and Immigrant Affairs, focused on educating the community about their rights in medical and behavioral health settings, particularly for immigrants and refugees. Presenters discussed the role of the city's Office of Small Business in supporting small businesses and nonprofits, including healthcare providers serving immigrant populations, through technical assistance, training, and connecting them with resources and funding opportunities. A significant portion of the discussion addressed immigration enforcement activities such as ICE audits and raids, emphasizing workers' rights, legal protections under the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, and strategies for healthcare providers and community organizations to create safe, supportive environments for immigrant families. The meeting also highlighted the economic contributions of immigrants in New Mexico and the importance of collaboration to reduce fear and isolation within these communities. Resources and ongoing support services were shared to empower both providers and community members.
