November 27, 2024
The County of Volusia held a public hearing on September 4, 2018, to discuss and adopt the fiscal year 2018-2019 budget and millage rates in compliance with Florida's Truth in Millage (TRIM) statute. The general fund was presented at the rollback rate, with other funds set at rates slightly above rollback to maintain current service levels. Key budget highlights included full funding of elected officials' budget requests, a 4% pay adjustment aligned with union contracts, and specific pay plan adjustments for 911 operators to address retention and competitiveness. The budget also allocated approximately $5 million for capital infrastructure projects, including public safety enhancements such as the 911 Next Generation system and corrections facility improvements. The council unanimously approved the proposed millage rates and the tentative operating budget totaling approximately $768 million, with a non-operating budget of about $141 million. The meeting concluded with scheduling a second public hearing for final budget adoption and a brief mention of a legal settlement with the City of Daytona Beach Shores.
