The County of Volusia held a government meeting focusing on several key procurement and contracting issues. A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to the presentation and selection of state lobbying services, where two firms, Southern Strategy Group and Gray Robinson, presented their qualifications and approaches. The council discussed the importance of lobbying for both policy and appropriations, emphasizing the need for strong relationships with state officials to secure funding and legislative support. After deliberation, Southern Strategy Group was selected as the state lobbyist, with some council members advocating for retaining federal lobbying efforts as well. Additionally, the council reviewed and approved contracts related to workers' compensation and liability insurance, and discussed infrastructure projects including ADA-compliant dune walkovers and beach access improvements. The meeting also addressed FEMA cost recovery efforts for hurricane damages, particularly concerning the replacement or repair of the 250 North Beach Street building, with the council directing staff to proceed with replacement at the same location. Public safety concerns were raised regarding EMS staffing and ambulance availability, highlighting challenges in meeting minimal acceptable service standards amid growing demand. The council agreed on the need for further workshops to develop policies ensuring adequate EMS coverage. Other agenda items included budget amendments for boardwalk extensions, employee United Way campaigns, and appointments to various commissions. Overall, the meeting underscored the county's focus on strategic contracting, budget management, and enhancing public services through effective procurement and legislative advocacy.
