# Informal Session - November 4, 2026

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System Board of Education held an informal session on November 4, 2026, focused on student discipline. Staff presented beginning-of-year weighted suspension data, reporting a district K–12 rate of 4.6 for the 2026–27 school year through October 14, below the same period last year. The presentation described the metric’s weighting of in-school and out-of-school suspensions, alternative placements, and expulsions, and outlined the district’s approach combining preventive supports with responsive and restorative accountability. Board members discussed staff training, consistent application of the student code of conduct, incident severity data, and support for teachers, bus drivers, and monitors; staff offered to provide bus-discipline data and further examine incidents by route.

Discussion also covered an audit of alternative learning programs, including Wings and Building Bridges, and possible ways to use alternative settings instead of out-of-school suspension. Staff noted Wings had low enrollment and that some staffing had been reassigned to schools with greater needs; members raised the possibility of using the program for students with other learning needs. The board also discussed early intervention, centralized student case management through the Raptor tool, mindfulness spaces, and community partnerships. No contract awards, purchasing decisions, procurement-related votes, or formal motions were identified.
