# City of Jackson, TN November 3, 2026 Audit Committee Meeting

The City of Jackson, Tennessee Audit Committee met on November 3, 2026. The committee received an update that three proposals had been submitted for the external audit consulting firm: Matrix Consulting Group, Strathouse Consulting, and Baker Tilly Advisory Group. Members supported adding the internal auditor and additional city staff to the evaluation group. Staff will distribute the submissions, scoring criteria, and timeline; evaluation is expected to take two to three weeks, with a recommendation going to the City Council in December if ready, or January at the latest. No firm was selected and no contract award or procurement spending was approved. Staff also asked committee members to review a draft RFQ based on the state’s model and send any concerns; staff plan to continue work on issuing it.

The committee heard that the FY25 audit was progressing, with 132 of 138 auditor requests fulfilled or accepted, and Mauldin & Jenkins projecting completion by December 31. Discussion also covered stronger budget controls and the FY24 Solid Waste Fund’s spending of about $14.8 million against a $13.4 million budget—an approximately $1.3 million overage—with a reported fund balance of about $15 million. The internal auditor reported that risk assessments were complete for 21 of 25 auditable departments and that procurement and contracting procedures are among the areas under review. The committee approved prior meeting minutes; no other spending-related vote was recorded.
