# Torrington Board of Education Facilities & Technology and Budget Committee Meetings

The Torrington Public Schools Facilities & Technology Committee and Budget Committee met on November 4, 2026. Facilities staff reported that elevator and snow-removal contracts were with the district’s attorney for finalization, with release anticipated soon; no awards were made at this meeting. Other work included purchasing glycol for the Torrington High School chiller, finishing Vogel playground fencing and planning a badge reader, and addressing facility repairs and building-management controls. Staff said cellular backup for fire and alarm systems is planned over winter break before discontinuing Frontier copper lines; elevator communications are expected to use Ethernet. The committee also discussed issuing bids/RFPs for regular- and special-education transportation and potential regional coordination to reduce transportation costs. A CREC purchasing consortium could lower paper costs from $29 to $26 per carton, with no membership fee.

The Budget Committee reviewed October financials, including approximately $25,000 budgeted for textbook replacement, and discussed proposed line-item transfers: $15,000 associated with turf maintenance would be moved from athletics’ professional-services budget to facilities-related staffing costs, while high-school textbook funds would be shifted to instructional and language-arts supplies. The committee approved an RFQ for a Human Resource Information System and forwarded it to the full board; the district is seeking alternatives to its current vendor and will confirm insurance language before the full-board review. The committee also discussed the budget-development calendar and moved the public budget workshop from March 15 to February 23 to allow more time to consider public input. No vendor selection or contract award was reported.
