# 2026.11.04 Data Center Subcommittee

The Town of Apex Data Center Subcommittee met on November 4, 2026, to hear from Apex Fire and Police Department representatives about public-safety planning for a potential hyperscale data center. Fire officials described Apex’s response capacity, the CAM regional response partnership and mutual-aid agreements, and potential data-center hazards, including lithium-ion batteries, generators, hazardous materials, and fire-water runoff. They said any proposal would receive early fire-marshal engagement and plan review, and that the applicant would be expected to provide an independent fire-protection review, meet water-supply and runoff requirements, and support first-responder training. Police officials discussed emergency access, site security, alarms, traffic, incident planning, and possible community complaints or protests; both departments emphasized that their detailed response planning would depend on a specific proposal.

The subcommittee noted that a western Apex fire station is already in the Town’s capital improvement plan, with projected construction in FY2030, and would house two additional trucks—an engine and a ladder truck—to address broader service gaps. No contract award, purchase, spending vote, or procurement action was identified. Members discussed possibly considering building square footage as well as power demand in future data-center standards and were told upcoming work may address UDO language; no policy decision was made. The only motion was to adjourn.
