# Open Space Task Force October 26, 2026

The Greenfield Open Space Task Force met on October 26, 2026. Members discussed conservation priorities, including wildlife corridors and crossings, dam removal, and how to identify parcels for protection. A member is compiling a spreadsheet of 215 parcels owned by the city or the Greenfield Redevelopment Authority for further review. The group also discussed pollinator-site maintenance and coordination with DPW on mowing and invasive-plant management; no contract or purchasing decision was made. The task force approved its September minutes unanimously.

Members considered a request from the Green River Forest Alliance concerning a privately owned 30-acre forest near Lunt Drive, where the owner is seeking removal of a water-protection overlay to enable development. The group did not take a position on the overlay change, but expressed interest in staying involved and possibly drafting a general letter supporting conservation of the land as plans advance. Separately, a vernal-pool signage proposal had passed a Community Preservation Committee review and was moving to its next phase; the task force did not approve funding. Grant-funded dam-removal projects, including a past proposal involving millions of dollars, were also discussed as background, not as a new allocation or procurement action. No contract awards or other procurement activity were identified.
