# CSA Seeks Canadian Lunar Microreactor Capabilities

The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) posted a request for information on October 27 seeking input from Canadian companies, universities, utilities, and laboratories on capabilities for a potential lunar fission microreactor, including components, testing, and robotic emplacement. Responses are due November 23, 2026, at 2 p.m. Eastern—19 days from the current date. The RFI is market research only: it is not a solicitation and does not commit Canada to a program or contract. It follows earlier Canadian lunar-power work, including a $250,000 concept study awarded to MDA Space in 2022 and two lunar power studies included among four in-situ resource utilization studies awarded in June 2026 for $2 million total.

- Canadian organizations with relevant capabilities can submit information by the stated deadline to inform CSA’s assessment of domestic expertise and future capability priorities; responses should not be treated as bids for an active contract.
- The prior studies indicate activity across concept development and lunar power research. MDA Space, Volta Space Technologies, and CSMC Nuclear are identified as awardees in this work, giving potential respondents relevant examples of participants in the field.
- Because the RFI carries no award commitment, companies and research organizations should frame responses around demonstrable technical capabilities and areas of expertise rather than assume a near-term procurement.
