# Springfield School Committee Budget & Finance Subcommittee Meeting November 03, 2026

At the November 3, 2026, Springfield School Committee Budget & Finance Subcommittee meeting, members voted unanimously to recommend that the full committee approve the FY2027 amended budget. The adjustment updates figures following the state budget’s finalization and was described as a routine step to balance the district budget: reduce $1.3 million from the districtwide reserve in Business and Financial Services, increase School Operations by $1,689,954, including a $3,183,874 increase for charter tuition and school choice, and reduce salary reserves by $1,493,920. No vendor awards or purchasing decisions were discussed.

The committee also discussed significant future funding pressure: the Student Opportunity Act funding is scheduled to sunset in June 2027, creating an anticipated $20 million gap, and a projected loss of about 800 students could mean another roughly $20 million reduction for FY2027–28. District leaders are investigating the enrollment decline and considering measures such as reviewing vacancies, charter and out-of-district tuition, and facility use, as well as student recruitment and community outreach. Members supported arranging an open working session and further public engagement; no formal action on those proposals was recorded.
