# Michigan City Board of Public Works & Safety November 2, 2026

The Michigan City Board of Public Works & Safety met on November 2, 2026. The board approved the certificate of substantial completion for the 2026 Community Crossings Matching Grant (CCMG) road improvement project, which included paving and sidewalk work completed by the October 15 deadline. It also approved Change Order No. 3, granting 16 additional days for final completion to address additional sidewalk and ADA-ramp work and weather delays. For the Airlex Drive roadway reconstruction project, the board approved House and Associates LLC’s Change Order No. 1, reducing the contract amount by $14,435, accepted the completed work, and approved the final payment recommendation. The project finished about 2.83% below its original bid; a two-year maintenance bond covering 20% of final construction value was noted at approximately $99,000. The related motions were approved.

The board also approved a request to scrap the Fire Department’s 1994 Pierce Dash pumper truck, citing its poor condition and low value; the cost of transporting it had not yet been determined. A request to extend Army license No. DACW353-16-20002 for maintenance of pier safety devices at the East Pier was tabled for further review by the attorney’s office. Other approvals included horse-and-carriage rides for Fish Camp patrons on December 6 and 13, and the claims and payroll claims dockets. No dollar amounts were stated for those items.
