# 11.2.26 Board of Commissioners' Meeting

The Nash County Board of Commissioners’ regular meeting was held November 2, 2026. Procurement- and funding-related actions included approval of a project ordinance for a $348,000 state award to establish the Sheriff’s Office emergency response and swift-water rescue team, and approval of budget amendments totaling $54,100: $6,000 for farmers market EBT expenses, $8,100 for Cooperative Extension events, $35,000 in state emergency-management grant funds for staff salaries and equipment, and $5,000 for a hazardous-materials preparedness exercise with an outside vendor. The county reported no local funds were required for these amendments. Commissioners also authorized an application to a state pilot program for septic-system repair, rehabilitation, or replacement for eligible homeowners; the county has not yet set program selection criteria. The board approved adding roads serving 64 lots in Magnolia Estates to the state-maintained road system, with future maintenance funded through public tax revenues.

The board reviewed proposed updates to the Unified Development Ordinance and directed staff to return with a final version for adoption at a future meeting. It approved the package with changes including removing mandatory EV-charging requirements, defining minor subdivisions as five or fewer lots, and removing the requirement for trees along interior subdivision roads; the 24-foot road-width requirement in subdivisions without fire hydrants was retained. The changes establish development standards affecting future subdivision, utility, and infrastructure projects. Separately, staff reported that the Wooten Company had submitted a planning request for a proposed one-million-gallon-per-day wastewater treatment plant and that the county had requested a one-year extension of its planning grant. No contract award or vendor selection was made at this meeting.
