# Recreation Commission 11-02-2026

The Barnstable Recreation Commission met on November 2, 2026. The commission discussed potential recreation capital projects and funding priorities: members said the Community Preservation Committee budget was over $5 million and recommended identifying recreation projects to champion for possible funding, while staff noted competition for capital improvement funds and the need to serve all villages. A proposed splash pad remains under review, including a planned site visit; no funding or construction decision was made. The town is also paying for a sound study at the Marstons Mills pickleball courts, with any future sound-mitigation purchases dependent on the study’s recommendations and a later funding decision. HYCC staff reported that camera upgrades were complete and keypad upgrades were underway, expected to continue through December; no costs or vendor contract details were provided. No procurement award or spending motion was recorded. The commission also heard that recreation and HYCC fee increases would be addressed at public hearings, and that only weekly permits for nonresidents were proposed to increase. Commissioners unanimously supported Tony Laala’s nomination as 2027 chair; the vice-chair nomination was deferred to January.
