# Columbus Nebraska, City Council Meeting 11/2/2026

At its November 2, 2026 meeting, the Columbus City Council approved several procurement and infrastructure items. It accepted a sole-source quote from Frontline Mobile Health for $43,249.50 for annual physicals for career fire staff and approved a $47,393 pickup purchase from Sid Dillon Fleet and Commercial for the water utilities division (CIP 27-38). The council also approved a $1,210,390 professional services agreement with HDR Engineering for design-phase services for green sand filtration at the South Water Treatment Plant (CIP 27-50). By consent, it approved relocation assistance of $1,000 and $28,410, and right-of-way and temporary easement costs of $2,501, for the 8th Street and 12th Avenue intersection project (CIP 2535), along with an amendment to the University of Nebraska Medical Center agreement for forensic and crime lab testing services. The consent agenda and each listed spending item passed by vote.

The council amended its purchasing policy to raise the competitive sealed bidding threshold to $90,000, aligning it with Nebraska Revised Statute 16-321; the resolution passed. In a department report, staff noted that engineering is involved in 34 of the fiscal year’s 83 capital improvement projects, representing more than $37 million in design or construction work. For the 8th Street and 12th Avenue project, two of three property acquisitions were complete and the third was expected to close that week; staff said costs were trending below the authorized budget. The council also recommended approval of a Class D liquor license application, appointed a police officer, and heard other departmental updates.
